Joyriding Imagines New Auto Aesthetics

Joyriding Imagines New Auto Aesthetics

By Dave Pinter on January 7, 2008

Platform 21, in Amsterdam is currently showing a fantasy fleet of concept car designs, imagined vehicles and altered radio controlled cars. The collection aims to inspire the imagination and show creative exploration of rolling sculpture. Platform 21 invited a host of designers, artists and even the garage team from MTV’s Pimp My Ride to contribute works.

Now that most vehicles have robust reliability, quality and performance, it is up to designers to dare to dream again and design the car of the future. The amazing imaginary cars, some dreamt up by graduates of London’s Royal College of Art, will remind you that automotive design can still take our breath away and keep us curious about the future.

The show includes Marijn van der Poll’s demonic Soap Box Racer and the new Fiat 500. Frame Magazine posted a few photos from some of the other artists and designers. We’re a bit jealous we can’t check it out ourselves.
