Shirts With Stories

by Jeff Squires

What do you get when you combine ironic old t-shirts with a concern for the environmental impact of your clothes?  Someone else’s dirty laundry of course. A new company called Re-shirt has begun attaching histories to garments and is selling them on the idea that, or rather, experimenting with the idea that products last longer when you know their history.

Essentially, people submit shirts that are special to them for some particular reason and write up a little story about why it’s important to them.  The shirts are collected, checked for quality, and displayed on at an online storefront.  When one of the shirts is purchased, it’s given a special tag and designated a unique code which is printed on the shirt - beginning the shirts registered life.  From then on,  future owners can document their own experiences to pass along to the next owner.
