Warner Bros To Make Films That Go Global

The Financial Times has a report on plans by Warner Bros to change its strategy to ensure it makes more films that have international appeal. The FT says:

“Over the past few years the international marketplace has become more important,” [president of Warner Bros Pictures Group] said. “In 2007 we did $2.4bn in the international box office and about $1.4bn here [in the US].”

The studio has modified its strategy to concentrate on films that can reach audiences in multiple markets.

Mr Horn said Warner Bros would continue to make films about US sports, which often struggle when released outside the US. But he added the company would make its biggest investments in films with international appeal, such as I Am Legend . “We have evolved to an events strategy around large-scale releases that resonate around the world,” he said.

Warner Bros is also reorganizing its marketing department to handle simultaneous international releases of their films.
