Pepsi Raw - A Natural Cola

Perhaps taking a cue from Jones Soda, Pepsi in the UK has launched a natural soda where they’ve dropped corn fructose and returned to sugar as an ingredient. The ingredients of the cola drink includes apple extract, plain caramel colouring, coffee leaf, tartaric acid from grapes, gum arabic from acacia trees, cane sugar and sparkling water.

While we applaud the move, we still are left wondering about the disconnect between the Pepsi NPD team and their marketing department who are going to promote it as a club drink:

“Responding to consumer trends towards premium and more natural products, it contains no artificial preservatives and is made using ingredients from natural sources. By launching Pepsi Raw in bars and clubs, we hope to engage with customers in a new way and are confident that they will enjoy its sophisticated cola taste.”

Because folks in clubs and bars in the UK really care about their health on a night out… Yawn.

On a side note, we presented the Change The World Or Go Home presentation to Parsons Students in New York this week - in it we talk about the concept of ‘Good Food’. Interested readers might want to check it out here.

  1. I had a promotional 100ml can of Raw with it’s 50p token. I have a “sweet tooth” so I enjoyed it and looked forward to surrendering my token for a larger can. I was so surprised and disapointed at the basic price of £1.99 for a ? 200ml can that I abandoned my purchase. Most cans colas can be bought, cold and individually, for less than £1 and, by the pack, cans can be bought for less than 50p a can. At £2 for a 200ml can you are into the relm of canned beers.
I hope you’ve seriously overpriced this product and that there’ll be a significant price reduction.
