The Club” is a new video game by Sega transforming the third person shooter genre.  Instead of a novel sized storyline accompany game play, as seen in games like “Halo,” “The Club” focuses on unadulterated action – taking cues from classic arcade games and more recent car racing games where high scores are what matter most.

Essentially, players are challenged to kill as many enemies as possible in a given time.  That’s it.  Players rack up points for each kill and earn bonuses for stringing together multiple kills or when they do something fancy, like getting a headshot – kind of a Tony Hawk Shoot-em up.

Developed by UK based Bizarre Creations, a studio traditionally known for their racing games, “The Club” appropriates many of the core elements of one of Bizarre’s previous games,  the “Project Gotham Racing” series, in which points are awarded for stylish moves like power slides, drafting and catching air.

According to Omar Woodley of Sega:

They [Bizarre Creations] have their racing heritage to look out for and they wanted to bring elements from the ‘PGR’ series to something new.  It’s really targeting the action arcade-style gamer. Anybody that plays a shooter will enjoy it and anyone who plays a racer will enjoy it. But it boils down to how high a score you can get and how you can raise that.
