Improving upon the Murphy bed design is BEDUP, a concept by French designers Décadrages that turns to the ceiling rather than the walls for stowaway space. With BEDUP, the sleeping quarters descends from above, all the way to the floor or hovering above, loft-like, with the help of a variety of braces. An innovative, flexible space-saving solution, BEDUP doesn’t require the floor space that Murphies and other bed/cabinetry combos do, and you can even have lighting installed into the bottom of the bedframe for when it’s hidden. This movie will give you a better sense of how the system works (those sensitive to cheesiness - beware).

All I can say is that this is a great idea for a bed for small places. Should become popular in big cities that have limited apartment space. Think I’ll show my daughter this one.
