A new Banksy street art piece in London has been immediately covered in a perspex panel so that it can’t be ruined, aged or removed. We don’t know if it was the artist or the owner (who many now plan to sell his wall like these guys did) – but wasn’t one of the major themes of street art the concept of temporariness?
Has this all gone a bit too far??
Anyway, here’s a video of the work:

No doubt Banksy is a capitalist in bohemian clothing. I’m not fooled.

although i agree that it is crazy for people to be buying walls that certain individuals have painted on i still feel that street artists are getting some much needed credability in the art world… i will not be buying any bricks but you may find me snapping a few photos.. congats ban man

This likely follows the fixing of a sheet of perspex to the wall of the Albert pub in Brighton which features this famous Banksy work on its side (along with George Best)

Maybe the Plexiglass over the art symbolizes that somebody in street art finally did something relevant, with a message, excellently crafted and funny.. Why is it that I can look through a Banksy book with awe and respect and look through a KAWS website and feel, well; nothing..

The Brighton one came about because it did get vandalised – they managed to remove the spray paint, and the pub then affixed the perspex to the wall because loads of visitors come specifically to see the Banksy, and the pub gets lots of passing trade as a result, so it’s in their interest to keep it protected!
