Robert Kalin is one of the crafty masterminds behind Etsy, the wildly popular online marketplace for all things handmade. As part of PSFK Conference New York, Kalin will be teaming up with Andrew Hoppin of NASA to discuss how collaboration plays a vital role in industries as disparate as theirs. We asked Robert to tell us a bit about himself and where he finds inspiration.

First, who are you and what do you do?

I am Robert Kalin and I make Etsy. I’m one of the founders, the CEO, and I also design the site itself.

You’ll be speaking on our Collaborative Co-Working panel - can you sum up your views on how collaborative work/creation is changing how companies engage with their customers, staff, partners, and the community?

I think the Web is a beautiful, open platform, and there’s no way to constrain conversations on it. I think Wikis will replace middle management, and that companies will be able to do much more with less people.

Five websites that provide you with inspiration:

www.complexification.net

www.spacecollective.org

www.nytimes.com

news.bbc.co.uk

www.craigslist.org

Thanks, Robert!
