Tesla Begins ZeroEV Roadster Production

Tesla Begins ZeroEV Roadster Production

By Dave Pinter on March 18, 2008

The on and off production saga of Tesla Motors appears to be officially on. President and CEO Ze’ev Drori announced yesterday that they met their target date for production of the 2008 Tesla Roadster to begin. The company was able to overcome the final round of government regulatory hurdles giving the green light to the factory.

Drori wrote yesterday on the company blog that while he feels this is a milestone day for the company, production plans have been deliberately set up to be conservative in order to ensure all the kinks can be worked out properly. The factory will slowly ramp up to peak production which is expected to be over 100 Roadsters produced per month by early next year.

With this milestone, the Tesla Roadster is the only zero emission electric vehicle in production today – this is in stark contrast to the others who only talk about their future plans. Tesla’s remarkable achievement validates the vision, ingenuity, hard work and commitment of Tesla’s employees.
