Jason Bruges’ Memory Rings

Jason Bruges’ Memory Rings

By Piers Fawkes on April 17, 2008

Jason Bruges has created a memory project for British telecom brand O2 where he will show videos within a circular hut that will instill a sense of déjà vu. Rings of video projected onto the wall will show what happened outside the hut at different time intervals – from a minute ago to hours ago. Basically its this thing that looks like a zoetrope that takes pictures around the outside – 360 degrees every minute – with screens inside that look like windows except for when you go near them they scroll back in time showing what was there minutes or hours before. Jason says:

“The cameras are filming the city beyond – but what happens is it if you imaging that a world that’s happened a moment ago as a ring below is below, and a world that’s about to happen as another ring, then you get this virtual environments that are the same footprint but you are actually seeing the sum of them.”

Some of you may remember Jason’s previous work for ‘Switched On London’. The Memory project launches on April 18 at Gabriel’s Wharf in London then travels to Liverpool and Edinburgh.

O2 will also launch their a DIY ring project to help you keep and remember your memories which we think will be found here: o2memoryproject.com
