As more co-working space becomes prevalent, two co-working environments caught our eye: Green Desk in New York and Cubes & Crayons in California.

Green Desk is an affordable environmentally responsible month to month rental office space in Brooklyn which offers all the services you need to run your business (fully furnished workspace is wired with high-speed internet access, a voip phone, a connection to an mp3 music server with thousands of songs, utilities, copying, scanning, printing, faxing and fresh organic coffee) while making sure your carbon-impact is kept in check. Green Desk also has energy efficient lighting, solar panels on the roof, recyclable furniture, carbon offsets, power from renewable energy sources and shared bicycles.

Meanwhile, in Menlo Park, California, Cubes & Crayons offers moms a place to work and their kids a place to play. Cubes&Crayons offers flexible office space with onsite high quality childcare. The terms are a little looser than Green Desk (no month long contract) - but provides most of the business services that a professional needs on an ad-hoc basis (no MP3 server, though). It does however provide “professional, developmentally appropriate childcare, for kids from 3 months to 5 years, a “separate” room to shut them away from you, and even the opportunity to leave the kids at work so you can run off for a quick lunch, sorry, serious business meeting.
