Passports With Video Content

by Jeff Squires

electronic passportIn an attempt to make ID documents more difficult to forge, Samsung SDI and German company Bundesdruckerei have developed an electronic passport that contains a tiny, bendable, color OLED display on a polycarbonate data page that can be used to display a variety of content, including text and video.

The super thin display is powered via a contactless reader, meaning the document doesn’t require batteries. And while all of the materials in the the display are heat resistant and the entire page can be laminated so as to prevent people from tinkering with it, there are still doubts about including electronic components into such sensitive material - with the assumption that it will eventually get hacked.
