RFID Olympic Games Tickets

by Sean Leow (PSFK Shanghai)

For the first time at an Olympic Games, RFID chips will be embedded in more than 16 million tickets. The technology for the RFID chips was developed by China’s leading engineering university, Tsinghua, and will allow tickets to be identifiable from five meters away.

While reverse engineering and copying of existing products is widespread in China, Olympic organizers are counting on the technological complexity of RFID to limit fake ticket sales. The RFID will also simplify ticket checking procedures and will hopefully provide useful information on seating and navigating venues throughout Beijing.
