The BMW Art Car Collection
In 1975 French race car driver Hervé Poulain asked Alexander Calder to customize his BMW 3.0 CSL. This was the catalyst for BMW’s art car project, which over the past 33 years has married BMW’s cars with custom paint jobs by leading artists. The art cars have been graced by designs from art heavyweights including David Hockney, Jenny Holzer, Roy Litchenstein, Frank Stella, Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol. These unique pieces have been shown in prominent museums around the world, and are on permanent display at the BMW museum in Munich, Germany.
