Yves Behar: Design Brings Stories To Life

by Dan Gould

Creating Objects To Tell Stories

Trendoffice points us to an inspiring clip from this year’s TED Conference. The video features designer Yves Behar, known for his work on several notable projects including the Jawbone headset, Y Water, The $100 Laptop, and the NYC Condom. Behar gives us a glimpse at his theory of design (”design brings stories to life” and “stories bring life to design”) and explains how he translates these ethos into products with soul.

TrendOffice recounts the designer’s explanation of his work with Y Water:

“Designing from the inside out” is the path to create value, says Yve Behar. One of his latest designs is an unconventional Y-shaped bottle for Y Water™, a new organic, low-calorie drink for children. “We’re using design to create a message that is the core of the brand.” says the designer. The playfulness of Y Water is further conveyed with its capability to be reused as a toy or building blocks. Natural rubber connectors called “Y Knots” allow children to connect different packages into molecule-like formations. The reusability of the Y Water package as a creative medium for children prolongs the useful life of the package, making it a more sustainable concept.
