EU Caps Roaming Text Charges

EU Caps Roaming Text Charges

By Nicko Margolies on July 21, 2008

Hopefully we’ll be seeing a lot more of this soon. We mean texting, of course. The prices of texts while roaming around Europe have seen a recent surge, leading European regulators to create a cap. Texts are minuscule amounts of data that cellular companies worldwide have slowly realized are great ways to nickle and dime customers. The Sun reports:

The clampdown came as a survey showed the 2.5 billion text messages sent between European countries every year cost up to TEN TIMES as much as texting at home. The European Regulators’ Group study showed the average cost of a roaming text message in the EU was 23p but could be as high as 63p.

Hopefully this government enforcement will spread, but in the meantime enjoy the price gouging.
