Kevin Kelly is a constant source of inspiration. He’s always coming through with deep insights into our culture and where we’re headed. This time, his Cool Tools website has a spot, equally impressive but for something a little more every day - toilet seats.
They discovered an easily removable toilet seat made by Bemis, which at first thought may not be that impressive. But, if you’ve ever tried to clean around the hinges of a seat, you’ll know why I’m so exited. Being able to just snap off the lid and really clean is nothing short of revolutionary. It’s a simple idea, but one that will be welcome by anyone stuck with the chore of cleaning a dirty bathroom.
As a side note, Bemis also makes a “quiet close” toilet seat. It glides shut with the touch of a finger. As opposed to the loud slam a traditional seat would make. Who knew bathroom hardware could be so exciting?

I’ll admit it here for everyone: I’ve had the removeable *and* non-slamming toilet seat for almost two years and would never again buy another kind. Word from my husband is it’s a must for anyone potty training a little boy, both from a cleaning and, um, safety standpoint.
