More Discussion About The Death Of Voicemail

A few weeks ago, I wrote about my personal experience with voicemail and how I had all but stopped using it. SMS and improved visual display of previous calls (and unlistened to voicemails) had made listening to voicemail unnecessary.

Now, tech commentator, Mike Arrington adds to the debate with a post on his site entitled ‘Think Before You Voicemail’ where he argues there’s no need to leave a message. He says:

But now an increasing number of people are just plain avoiding voicemail. It takes much longer to listen to a message than read it. And voicemail is usually outside of our typical workflow, making it hard to forward or reply to easily.

Typical voicemail messages today include things like “Please don’t leave me a voicemail, I rarely listen to them. Please just email me at xxxx@xxxx.com”

  1. I’m surprised you haven’t looked into any of the voice to text services currently available.

I wrote a response to that TechCrunch piece just the other day about how I get round the problem of voicemail.

Would be interested in your thoughts?

  2. In fact, scrap that.

I’d be happy to offer you up a SpinVox Voicemail to Text account to try out.

Might help you over your aversion to listening to voicemails. I haven’t listened to any in months!
