Instant farms? SPIN Farming (short for S-mall P-lot IN-tensive) is kind of like a “farm in a box”. It’s a standardized, complete system to start an organic farm on a small plot of land (almost anywhere). The SPIN techniques have proven to be abundant and profitable in urban and rural areas. Some secrets used include: relay cropping (mixing different plants in the same space), and growing only what’s profitable based on the needs of the local food markets. The easy to use plans enable the SPIN method to make anyone into a farmer.

This is a fantastic and tangible example of how a number of trends have come together to form a whole approach.
In the SPIN concept we have miniaturisation, componentisation, organics, and localisation. This is not simply a return the way our grand-parents did things but the application of new thinking to a new problem.
