Design and construction of the sports venues aren’t the only buildings underway for the 2012 London Olympics. Columbus Ohio based Chute-Gerderman has already penned a concept for youth style shop inspired by British culture. The design was developed for Chain Store Magazine’s annual Store of the Future.
The UnionJac concept is part clothing store, salon, cafe and hangout melded with lots of interactive technology. 3D mirrors allow outfits to be tried on virtually. Life size touchscreens serve as huge media hubs where photos, video, and fashion tips can be shared. The salon incorporates a two way video mirror where a famed London stylist pops on to give personalized advice. UnionJac also offers something called light-activated tattoos as temporary body mods.
There’s a UnionJac mini-site available with more images and a description of the concept. Likely developed to explore a theme and integrate future ideas, UnionJac will probably only exist as vapor retail.

Natty gadgets aside, it looks like one of those crappy airport stores where you buy tins of shortbread…
Try again.

Hmm…ignoring the comment by the previous poster, this was a concept I worked on with my previous employer as part of a “Store of the Future” feature in Chain Store Age Magazine - March 2008 Issue.
It’s great seeing it get featured here!
The premise of the challenge was to design a youth(tween) store of the future.

I meant no disrespect to the designers/creators of the store - I know how much hard work and dedication go into these things -
It’s just the mock up was a bit uninspiring, s’all.
