Backchannel Adds Competitive Chat to TV

Backchannel Adds Competitive Chat to TV

By Dan Gould on September 15, 2008

Tonight, MTV is launching a new social game called Backchannel. It’s a kind of competitive chat, meant to be played while watching episodes of The Hills. Players can type in short, witty comments about the drama unfolding on screen. If others like your blurbs, they can click on it, which will give you more points.

PSFK got to preview Backchannel last week, and even though I don’t particularly enjoy The Hills, this game made it incredibly fun. The extra layer of real time interaction turned boring TV into a competition that rivet’s your attention. The games begin at 10pm eastern along tonight’s episode of the Hills.
