The 2008 Paris Auto Show is still a few weeks away but details on some of the new concepts and production cars scheduled for unveiling are already emerging. Much like what PSFK noticed earlier in the year in Detroit, hybrid vehicles look to play a major role at Paris show. Citroen will present the Hypnos hybrid crossover concept (upper left). Details about the sleekly styled vehicle are scarce but Citroen claims that the Hypnos will get 52mpg.

Honda will show the next generation Insight concept (upper right). This hybrid shares the name of the original 70mpg Insight which ended production in 2006. The next generation car is much larger and has 4 doors and a hatchback. Honda hopes to sell 100,000 Insights in the US alone after it arrives in 2009.

Huge anticipation is surrounding the unveiling of the production version of the plug-in Chevrolet Volt (lower left)at Paris. GM has showed bits and pieces of the car in progress. But a glimpse of the what may be the full car was spotted recently on the set of the new Transformers movie.

Finally Mazda will bring yet another new Nagare styled concept to Paris. Mazda calls the Kiyora concept (lower right) an ‘urban compact concept car’. Technically it’s not a hybrid but it does use the Smart Idle Stop System which cuts the engine off when the vehicle is stopped. This boosts fuel economy and reduces CO2 emissions.

The Paris Auto show begins October 4 and runs through the 19th.
