We saw this in the French coastal town of Collioure today. They are recycling ’shoots’ that collect your bottles and cans. We’re not too sure how the underground collection gets recovered but they sure look better than a rusty wheelie bin left in the wrong place. Again.

Inspiration to make things better.

  1. They’re horrible!

Sorry, don’t mean to be negative the thought is a good one, the execution is nasty.

    Some suggestions:

    a) invite design/art school to submit different versions based on a theme. Make it a competition with some decent incentives and prizes

    b) Involve a brand – some of which are responsible for litter – too much packaging, non-biodegradable. This may result in a giant soda can on the side of the road. If it saves the tax payer money, then it’s not big deal in a city environment.

    c) make them do something cool. When you put rubbish in, the can burps. Encourage kids to get into being responsible.

Damn. I could go on, but that’s what I get paid for. Send me a brief…

    :)

  2. I saw very similar collection points in Bordeaux, France. The waste and recycle material were raised to the surface by hydrauliacs and taken by truck, but some of the collection points moved the material on conveyor belts to somewhere else.

I asked a local who commented that there was no room for rubbish trucks on the narrow streets so they take everything to these collection points. it was really clever and encouraged locals to recycle everything.

  3. Daleks.
