All the big brands have their version of these simple canvas numbers, but none are as widely endorsed as the variety of non-branded versions. It’s more than a fad, it’s phenomenon that has relentlessly swamped the High Streets here. I know for a fact that TOPMAN makes an absolute killing in no-logo ‘plimsole’ sales. Largely because it has transcended all style tribes, everyone adopting and appropriating them for their look.
It seems to be OK to wear unbranded goods, probably related to the popularity and success of American Apparel and Uniqlo who are heavily focusing on styling, cut, price and NOT the brand logo’s prominence on product. Nike have picked up on this with certain products in their newly launched Sportswear line which features items with considerably less prominent logo details.

People call them Plimsoles in London. Outside the city, I don’t know if the same name exists. You can buy them for between 7 and 10 British pounds if you know where to look. I purchased mine on Brick Lane
