We saw this ad on the side of a phone-booth the other day. It’s from an icelandic bottled water. What’s interesting is that, although they sense the consumer eco-backlash against water that travels around the world, they’re going to actually still use ‘green’ as a major selling point. Icelandic Glacial is proudly Carbon Neutral – which means its power comes from a hydrothermal powered plant (like most of Iceland’s companies) – which is all very nice but it still doesn’t mean it offset the fuel the ships and trucks burn to deliver it to your bodega in Brooklyn.

Well, since they’re going to market the stuff anyway, I guess it’s better than nothing.

I saw this product being sampled by their distributor at a Whole Foods. I presented them with the question about the travel and they really didn’t have an answer (and surprisingly acted as though this had never come up before). Can’t criticize their practices, though, just the travel. Of course, there’s not much of a market in Iceland, I’d imagine.

It does seem they do offset all their transport.
