We’re excited to have Ian Stewart, Senior Vice President of MTV Networks Asia, joining us in Singapore at PSFK Conference Asia to discuss the latest in “Asian Youth Trends”. Ian will lead a discussion about trends within Asian youth culture and how they will impact business around the world.
First, who are you and what do you do?
I am a youth and music marketing guy, who’s has spent my 18 year career in Asia, working for companies such as Ogilvy, Coca-Cola, MTV (twice) and my own youth agency Filter. I have lived in Thailand, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia and Singapore and love them all. I spend a lot of time in Tokyo, which I also love. I am from Sydney, which I love for the surf. These days I am a senior vice president with MTV Asia, looking after the MTV brand across the region, with an emphasis on our music partnerships, events and artists. I love that too. I speak at lots of conferences and like to tell stories about the digital lives of today’s youth, and the fact that since social networking there’s no turning back.
You’ll be leading a discussion about trends within Asian youth culture and how they will impact every business around the world. In one paragraph, can you explain what themes and trends you’ve been noticing in the region and how it has begun making a global impact?
Without a doubt, the digital lifestyle of young people today is changing everything. From the valuation of content (free) to the accumulation of friends (1000’s), and from the Mass (on Facebook) to the Niche (via the long tail), I think it’s all fascinating and is redefining business models left, right and center.
Five sites that provide you with inspiration?
Too many to mention. To single out 5 would be an injustice to the other 5 million I like. But check out www.threebillion.com as a good start point.
Thanks, Ian!
