The Nokia 5310 “Comes With Music”: A Year of Unlimited Mobile Music Downloads

by Christine Huang

In the UK, Nokia is set to launch a music download service meant to rival Apple’s iTunes: a ‘free’ plan that lets users of their Nokia 5310 download unlimited tracks from a 2 million song catalog for a full year. The subscription service, called “Comes with Music”, is part of the pre-pay contract users of the 5310 must opt-in to through Carphone Warehouse. After the first 12-months, users will still be able to download songs - but only with a renewed subscription. The songs are all DRM protected, and three of the biggest labels (Warner Music, SonyBMG, and Universal) are already on board. Nokia plans to roll-out the special package deal throughout Europe and Asia next year.

The phone+service will be on sale in October, while a “Comes without Music” version is already available on a pay-as-you-go basis.
