Banksy Takes Over New York

Banksy Takes Over New York

By Dan Gould on October 9, 2008

Over the past few weeks there has been much speculation about massive murals which have been going up around Manhattan. They featured huge caracatures of rats, which looked very much like the work of infamous street artist Banksy.

All the rumors have finally been confirmed. The mysterious billboards are part of a New York City Banksy installation that has just opened. Named the “Village Pet Store And Charcoal Grill”, the show is a departure from his usual work. The pop-up store is a kind of surreal pet store, that features bizarre displays like an animatronic rabbit wearing a pearl necklace, fish sticks swimming around a fish bowl and chicken mcnuggets sipping barbecue sauce.

Banksy’s odd and wonderful shop is located at 89 7th Avenue between West 4th and Bleecker Street, and is open every day from 10-midnight till October 31st.
