Featured Artists Coalition: Musicians Set to Take It All Back

Featured Artists Coalition: Musicians Set to Take It All Back

By Claudia Cukrov on October 7, 2008

The Featured Artists Coalition is set to ruffle some feathers amongst music producing and distributing giants.  Launching in the UK last weekend, the group plans to act as a platform for artists by communicating with “government, music and technology companies, and collection societies, arguing for fair play and, where necessary, exposing unfair practices.”

With all the latest advancements in DIY music production and file-swapping, the power is definitely shifting from the once all-owning corporate labels, to the smaller, independent bands and collectives:

The Featured Artists’ Coalition campaigns for the protection of performers’ and musicians’ rights. We want all artists to have more control of their music and a much fairer share of the profits it generates in the digital age. We speak with one voice to help artists strike a new bargain with record companies, digital distributors and others, and are campaigning for specific changes.

Artists who have signed up include…

Billy Bragg
Boilerhouse Boys
Chrissie Hynde
Craig David
David Gilmour
Gang of Four
Iron Maiden
Jazzie B
Jools Holland
Kaiser Chiefs
Kate Nash
Klaxons
Radiohead
Richard Ashcroft
