Superstruct: A Massively Multiplayer Game With a Cause

By Christine Huang on October 28, 2008

Superstruct, a project from the Institute for the Future, is a massively multiplayer game focused on the future – and the potential disasters it holds. The players’ goal is to forecast the impact of economic meltdowns, public health crises, and other calamities on civilians around the world, and hopefully come up with possible solutions. The virtual world is set in 2019, with an ominous message from a ‘supercomputer’ predicting the demise of the entire human race by 2042. Superstructers must navigate through a world of online forums, blogs, videos and wikis to solve this problem of catastrophic proportions before the game ends on November 17. Pretty heavy stuff.
