Playing with the new download of the iPhone software we realized that within the Google Map software not only does the phone give you directions by foot or on public transport, it also tells you when the next train is coming. The picture here shows that I’ve got 8 minutes to get out of the apartment and catch the train.

Haha, when’s the last time the nyc subway ran on time according to the ‘official’ published schedule?!

Well this is stupid.
You see people practically kill themselves running for trains.
Two things:
a) get out of bed earlier
b) there will be another train in 10 minutes. If that 10 minutes is so important go back to a)
c) If you knock into me one more time I will trip you.

I just tried this in London. Not exactly brilliant results. The route request from Hoxton to Oxford Street on foot and public transport returns a truly patience testing hike all over London. Journey time? 1 hour 30. Actual time for anyone even casually aquatinted with how to read an A to Z and tube map. 30 mins. Must try harder.

Aquatinted! Best typo I’ve ever done.

Way cool – but is it accurate? If the system relies on dynamic location information (i.e. if it relies on live data about where the train is based on GPS signals) then maybe. But if it relies on a timetable of where the train ought to be . . . riiiiight.
