On the Back of Identity

ShotCodes does wonders for offline advertising (and stalking) by allowing you to scan the identity of passers by.   The latest venture from Netherlands-based apparel company W-41 gives users the ability to ‘carry their websites with them” using their barcoded logo apparel; each logo entirely unique to its owner.  People can photograph your logo with their camera phone and use the free ShotCode mobile application to access the wearer’s Linked In, Facebook, Myspace or W-41 profile.  Voyeurs can even leave you private messages.  Apparel starts at USD$50 and is available from their website.

  1. I prefer ReacTees. Even better, why not just have clothing with the link on it.

http://www.FloydHayes.com is easily understood immediately and you can still take a picture of the link for later if you like.

Plus it won’t cost you 15 quid a month for the pleasure…

  2. Shameless self promotion. : )

  3. Interesting, but a way more functional app was launched about 10 years ago by skim.

They printed 6 digit numbers on all their clothing which if you saw someone wearing, you remembered (or wrote down), if you wanted to get in touch.

Entering the number on skim.com would send a message to the wearer.

There was obviously a disconnect compared to this, in that you had to wait to get back to a PC; but neat idea, and one of the first forays into offline / online social networking - and sadly proved to be ahead of its time.
