With 6.3 million items ordered on its peak day of December 15, Amazon has announced that the 2008 holiday season. While traditional retail slumped by 4% during the period, the online retailer managed to be able to sell products of all sizes and varieties with no problem.
Top sellers in consumer electronics included Samsung’s 52-inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, the Apple iPod touch 8 GB and the Acer Aspire One 8.9-inch netbook.
Top video game console was the Nintendo Wii which “dominated” the top sellers in video games and hardware including the Wii console, the Wii remote controller and the Wii nunchuk controller.
In DVDs, top sellers included Wall-E, The Dark Knight for Blu-ray and “The Dark Knight regular edition.
Top sellers in books included The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling, Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer and Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer.
