We noticed this new messaging on the windows of American Apparel over the weekend. Reminding shoppers that it makes its clothes here in America, this window on 19th Street in NYC reads:

Crafted with pride in Los Angeles, California.

It’s funny how this Obama-era flag-waving seems to work for AA. Meanwhile, the Big Three seem to be using the same sort of vocabulary and none of us seem to care or believe them. The American car firms are brands of the past not the future…

  1. I’d hardly call it “Obama era,” if we’re even in that era yet. If anything AA has been doing the “Obama-era” flag waiving before Obama. AA centers its company and sells its products on being made in the U.S. be people making a real wage, instead of across the border for next to nothing, and they’ve been selling it for years now. In a market where the consumer is politically savvy, flag-waving only works if it actually seems like you’re helping someone with it, not just yourself. And isn’t that what the flag is supposed to illicit, pursuit of happiness for all, not just profits for some. Corporate bailouts vs. a living wage; tell me which is more patriotic or inspiring.

  2. Ummm. AA has nothing to do with Obama. Mr. Wacko CEO wanted his employees to vote for McCain because of his stance on immigration reform. AA is not an intelligent enough entity to support Obama

  3. American Apparel was supportive of both candidates’ early stances on immigration. Obviously it is corporation so it’s not going to try to push the employees on who to vote for. However, Obama has been very supportive of the company and some members of the campaign shot part of a commercial between the two buildings. He also printed all his campaign shirts on American Apparel.

  4. Honestly though; what’s the difference between a sweatshop in downtown LA versus a sweatshop in Tijuana? 150 miles?
