‘Green Cloud’ Lights Up Energy Consumption

We absolutely love this installation by French art duo HeHe (Helen Evans and Heiki Hansen).  The piece, entitled Nuage Vert, or “Green Cloud,” is an attempt to raise awareness about energy consuption and help quantify individual responsibility.

Every night for a week, the vapor emissions from the Salmisaari coal burning power plant were illuminated with a high power green laser animation. The laser drew an outline of the moving cloud onto the cloud itself, coloring it green.

While it’s been nearly a year since the piece debuted, we thought it was still worth a post.

The project went on to win the 2008 Ars Electronica Golden Nica.
