Pop-Up Store in China Showcases Local Designers

Last month we talked about  branded pop up stores in the US - and now we’re turning our attention to how the concept has taken on a creative manifestation in China. As opposed to a large brand setting up a pop-up store, dysemevas is a design boutique run by Dee Poon that sells clothing, accessories, jewelry and tableware by China-based designers.  Set up in Hong Kong for 6 weeks, the store went through a few transformations during the six weeks including changing from a casual T-shirt and jeans store to a more formal store featuring designer suits and jewelry.

Dee Poon describes dysemevas’ pop-up concept:

The ideas presented will be playful and young but also luxurious and powerful. With a focus on exuberant and beautiful design, dysemevas will bridge the gaps between high and low, as well as avant-garde and traditional.

Weekly, the featured works change according to different themes. Activities, parties, and happenings will be held at the space next door, our own little playroom…

Hong Kong has seen few, if any, pop-up stores and dysemevas was opened up in a working-class area far from the glitzy shopping areas Hong Kong is famous for.  While the Hong Kong shop just shut down, it’s set to open up in Beijing’s 798 district in mid-2009 and then move on to Shanghai.
