Colin Nagy, PSFK contributor and Partner at Attention, will be moderating our Collaboration & Creative Evolution panel at the PSFK Good Ideas Salon London. Along with Sophie Howarth of The School of Life, Jeremy Ettinghausen of Penguin, and Pat Connor of BBC, the panel will discuss how collaborative creation results in better businesses and ideas.
First, who are you and what do you do?
I’m Colin Nagy and I’m a Director at Attention, a communications/social media marketing shop based in New York. We advise media outlets like Tina Brown’s The Daily Beast and IFC as well as large consumer brands on various issues pertaining to digital media. So, everything from online public relations and building word-of-mouth, to advice on editorial content, and also measuring a brand’s progress using all of the wonderful data made possible by the internet. Elsewhere, I write extensively about all forms of electronic music, cover NYC cultural events for Flavorpill, and write for the lovely PSFK. I also post assorted bits and bobs to my posted items feed on Facebook. Say hi.
You’ll be sharing your ideas on our Collaboration and Creative Evolution panel. In one paragraph, can you explain what themes and ideas you hope to touch upon during the discussion?
One of the most exciting things to me about the evolution of collaboration is:
1. Allowing latent ideas and creativity in an organization to come to the surface and be actionable. Also, breaking down hierarchy and providing more of a meritocracy when it comes to innovative concepts. Not all amazing ideas come from the C-suite.
2. In many ways, collaboration can help people get past that initial speedbump that comes with a good, but complicated idea. I think being able to draw on resources and support, whether within a company or in the larger world, will make the difference between an idea taking shape or drifting off into the ether.
