We’ll be walking the 2009 Detroit auto show on Wednesday and will have a full report later in the week. Much of the press has already moved on, but we like to get a sense of the reactions of consumers to what they see. We’ll take a look at the vehicles on display and also document the stands and visual marketing and hopefully chat with a few people. This year is particularly important for the struggling auto industry as it tries to reinvent itself. We can only wonder how many brands will live to see the 2010 Detroit auto show.
Beyond the struggles of the auto industry, the city of Detroit itself is facing some even more dire prospects for the future. The recent legal troubles involving the city’s mayor hasn’t been the kind of attention the city needs. DetroitBlog offers an interesting look at stories from the city outsiders will likely never see. The topics at first glance might seem mundane, recent articles have featured local libraries, stray animals, and a hang out club for retired auto workers. But the detail and first hand accounts are compelling views of surviving in the inner city. Written by an ‘anonymous’ author, the site is well worth a read.

thanks Marie, just watched the video and thoroughly enjoyed it. Have a weird feeling Detroit is giving the rest of the world a glimpse of a very possible future.
