We’ve started this year with the sad news that more of our friends are looking for work. We want to help them – but we need some help.
At the beginning of 2008, we experimented by bringing out our rolodex of trends experts. We called this the Purple List and we created this on Ning. Although this proved popular with the experts the site itself wasn’t very useful because it was un-hackable and the search engine could not be adapted.
With 2009, we want to give it another go. This time with an expanded mission – to give access to experts in many different fields – from topics like advertising to food & drink to technology to even certain countries. Also this time on a different platform – on a Buddypress installation on Wordpress MU.
We don’t quite know where this will all end up as we aren’t looking to directly monetize the service. The experts will (at first) be invite only to ensure quality and the site will be free to use. Today, we just want to connect companies to people for as little time as a one hour telephone call to a one month project.
As such, we’re looking for one or two people who are interested in donating their time to help us pull this off.
A Designer with experience of Wordpress to:
1. Take this alpha version of the new Purple List and make it look a little more professional, easier to use (especially for users), feel like it’s connected to PSFK
2. Create a home page that includes search form that will query the database of experts
3. Create a template for search engine results
4. Make some tweaks to how the User Profile Page links to hyperlinks
An SQL programmer to:
1. Create the search engine query (multiple options in the form – a bit like a flight search engine)
2. Create the output from the search engine which can be sorted by rank and date.
3. Allow PSFK admin to apply ratings to each expert
We’re sorry if it sounds cheeky to ask for people to donate their time. It’s just that we won’t get around to building this otherwise.
