Who hasn’t spurned a restaurant due to a mediocre Yelp rating (in which two people total have voted), decided against a book based on a few comments on Amazon,

Maybe it's an end to meeting at bars under the pretense of wanting to buy somebody a drink. I mean, really... buying a drink is old hat pickup... who needs a radar for where that's going?

It's so much sexier to have a sweet app on that new iPhone/BlackBerry/Android. Why make your own decisions about something when it's so much easier to have someone else's 5 word rating make the decision for you?
I think this can actually be looked at as a much deeper and revealing comment on society's wish for immediate gratification. Who hasn't spurned a restaurant due to a mediocre Yelp rating (in which two people total have voted), decided against a book based on a few comments on Amazon, or passed over the classic film in Netflix because the service only rated it 2.4 based on your previous ratings? It's easier to take the easy way out and not have to face a situation in which we just might be let down. Ultimately, this will leave us lacking in fundamental ways. Aaand, I didn't mean for this to become a rant on social decline.

I'd rather use my intuition about people. It rarely fails, needs no batteries and is eco-friendly :)
