PSFK Conference New York Speaker: Ryan Jacoby
We’re excited to have IDEO’s Ryan Jacoby sharing his ideas and experiences at our upcoming PSFK Conference NYC 2009. Jacoby will be joining Simon Collins (Parsons), Sarah Beatty (Green Depot), and moderator Dave Pinter (PSFK) in a discussion about how sustainable, economic and socially conscious issues are driving the design of new products and services.
First, who are you and what do you do?
My name is Ryan Jacoby and I’m a business designer at IDEO. I help lead our New York office and I lead our business design discipline globally. But mostly, I love designing new experiences for users and businesses for our clients.
You’ll be sharing your ideas on our panel about “ReConnection”. In one paragraph, can you explain what themes and ideas you hope to touch upon during the discussion?
Here are some stream of conscious thoughts: Being cheap and being sustainable are very close cousins. Designing a sustainable businesses is often part and parcel to destroying a lot of market value. The labor market has shifted along with the values of the people entering the workforce. Regardless of how much “good” a new type of solution does, if it isn’t desirable and it doesn’t meet a customer’s need, it won’t stick.
