PSFK Conference New York Speaker: Avner Ronen

We’re excited to hear what Avner Ronen, co-founder and CEO of boxee, will share with us at PSFK Conference NYC 2009. He will be speaking on our “Open To Change” panel, along with Scott Heiferman (Meetup), John Geraci (Outside.In), Florian Peter (CScout) and Domenico Vitale (PI&C), where the group will discuss how creators and the community openly come together to develop new thinking and make ideas happen.

First, who are you and what do you do (in 150 words or less)?

Hi, I’m Avner, boxee‘s CEO and co-founder. Basically that means I spend my time telling people about why boxee is the best media experience you can have, traveling between SF, NYC, & Israel, and working to change the infrastructure of the entire media industry. and I get to enjoy great music, movies, and photos, and taste wonderful (Gimme Coffee), and terrible coffee along the way.

You’ll be sharing your ideas on our “Open To Change” panel. In one paragraph, can you explain what themes and ideas you hope to touch upon during the discussion?

The Internet has changed newspapers. It’s changed magazines. It’s changed music. It’s changed social. Now it’s changing entertainment. More and more people are enjoying movies and tv shows on the net. This new consumer habit challenges television industry revenue models that have been around for decades. Change is coming, and content owners, broadcast networks, cable / satellite companies, device manufacturers and telcos are all being forced to rethink how they do business. At boxee, we’re embracing the change our users want to see in the way they consume media, and we’re trying to convince the industry to come with us.
