Although we’re not too sure how sellable a point-and-click camera is when you can’t slip it in your pocket because of the lens, the use of leather on this future model from Olympus stands out. This almost-an-SLR camera will be seen as top-of-the-range and maybe the leather will help, no?

Just pointing out that the camera pictured is actually a protoype interchangable lens camera based on a new standard. The pocketability factor should be compared to SLR camera’s for which this is much smaller.
Regarding the leather thing. I think this is particular to cameras, because they have a pre-digital analogue (film cameras) that have long used leather (or leather like surfaces) particularly on the high end (Leica’s being the example invoked by the design above). I’m not sure that consumer electronics that don’t have a pre-electronic analogue translate well with leather (those leather laptops never really took off). These will develop their own ‘iconic forms’ that may or may not use leather, but I’m banking on not.
