Rethinking The Plain White Tee

Rethinking The Plain White Tee

By Laura Feinstein on April 16, 2009

Brace yourself, a second wave of Anglophilia is about to hit North America. New Yorkers still reeling from the opening of the first US Topshop this month will now have something new to wait in line for. Topman, the UK retailer’s little-brother line, will be coming out in May with a series of exciting new designer collaborations, all centered around a modern reworking of a true men’s fashion staple—the white t-shirt. This collaboration is the fourth in a series of projects where a select group of designers have been asked to provide their own version of a classic wardrobe piece. Past garments to have undergone a Topman makeover have been the black trouser and the classic sunglasses. Designers participating in the upcoming project include Phillip Lim, Juun J, JW Anderson, Christopher Shannon, Henry Holland, and Richard Chai, who created a rather stunning limited edition collection for Target’s Go International line last summer. Also involved in the project is Topman Design, Topshop’s in house design team.
