ICFF: Exercise While You Sit

By Dave Pinter on May 22, 2009

A primary function of seating is to provide comfort. But some do it so well, long term use can be unhealthy. Hence the term couch potato. NY based ErgoErgo is looking at seating in an entirely different way. At ICFF they launched a new seating concept designed by Alan Heller which is part exercise ball, part stool. The ErgoErgo stool is designed to give users a gentle workout with the benefits of strengthening core muscles and relieving back pain. The company developed the idea to encourage wellness primarily for the millions of Americans who work at a desk all day and have no time to exercise.

We tried out the stool and it works by encouraging you to subtly shift your body position often. The design feature a series of bellows which are flexible but still provide stability. It is quite comfortable.

This is the first product from ErgoErgo and the company hopes to develop more well-designed and reasonably-priced furniture ideas for creating and maintaining wellness.
