New Collaboration: Claw Money x Sunglass Hut

By Laura Feinstein on May 22, 2009

This past Tuesday legendary graffiti artist Claw Money unveiled her new collaboration with Sunglass Hut in a splash opening at the store’s Herald Square outpost. The theme of the event was the internet, and on hand clicking away at guests was digital sensation Cory Kennedy and the Arab Parrot. In keeping with the trend of retail openings seeming more and more like rock concerts and Hollywood premieres Jamaican rapper Sean Paul was also in attendance to play a private set for guests. In addition, there was a booth stationed where guests could take pictures of themselves in their new sunglasses and instantly upload the pictures to their facebook or flickr accounts- making the event an instant online experience.

This is Claw Money’s second major retail collaboration, the first being a successful capsule collection for portage suppliers Boosted. The collaboration has already generated a fair amount of buzz for both the artist and Sunglass Hut, who are sure to benefit from the street cred and overall curiosity this limited edition collection will bring. In addition, Sunglass Hut will also be launching Sun Social “an interactive system that is designed to help customers ‘find their cool’”, which is composed of a photo booth system enabling those trying on sunglasses to view how multiple sunglasses look on them at once,  allowing them to compare before buying. In this time of economic recession it was encouraging to see a store packed with enthusiastic customers all eager to meet the masterminds behind the product.
