All this summer in London, the Doodle Bar is encouraging visitors to draw as much as they want on anything in their space, and they do mean everything. Jules Cocke of filmmakers Squint/Opera, who along with illustrator Serge Seidlitz, came up with the idea.
The bar was constructed from materials acquired through bartering with contributors and furniture was found through Freecycle. The entire interior has been whitewashed and filled with markers and pens from sponsor uni-ball POSCA. At the opening earlier this month, guests could draw on the walls, furniture, props like guitars and a salvaged car, and even on the bartenders.
We believe in the freedom of doodle. We wanted to create a space that will act as a platform for people to get together, to inspire, share, develop and evolve their ideas, unleash their potential creativity, and have fun! The aim is to make The Doodle Bar into a walk in, constantly evolving work of art, created as a collaboration between all those who visit. says Jules
Doodle Bar already has a number of events scheduled including drawing workshops, film screenings, and yoga classes.
