The Gap sure has been busy as of late. The Medium-level retailer just finished unveiling their new collaborations with Vena Cava and Alexander Wang, and they already have a new project on the slate with popular British designer and Beatles-offspring Stella McCartney. McCartney, who also healmed a wildly successful design campaign for Adidas in the past, will be creating a collection of children’s clothes to be carried only by select GapKids and babyGap stores in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Ireland, and Japan. However, the collection will also be online for those not in participating countries. McCartney, known as much for her humanitarian work as her designing says that “now is the time to create affordable clothing for children”
In addition to rolling out some appealing designer capsule collections, the Gap will also be expanding their online shoe and handbag shop, and sub- company Piperlime will also be adding 50 new contemporary apparel labels later this summer. This is all part of a creative financial and marketing strategy by the GAP to recover from the serious losses it encountered last quarter, causing it to try new and innovative methods- which also includes plans to remodel about 50 Old Navy stores (Gap’s lower priced subsidiary) in 2009 and open about 40 new franchise stores internationally.
