A while back PSFK wrote about Mayuko Sakisaka’s “please keep my secrets” project; where an emotional printer “takes ephemeral communications like SMS messages and make them keepsakes.” Artist Ginger Anyhow has also found an innovative way to translate transient SMS communication into handmade mementos. In her series Embroidered Text Messages, received 02/06-04/07, Anyhow recreates each SMS stitch by stitch, not only archiving a message in time, but preserving an ever changing language for future generations. In such modern times dynamic technologies like telecommunications and the internet change frequently, with little archived or physically documented some believe these changes will leave society with a “cultural black hole”.
