iKey’s Rugged and Wearable Keyboard

iKey’s Rugged and Wearable Keyboard

By Nicko Margolies on July 16, 2009

This rugged keyboard is meant for military and police applications, but it sets a new precedent for the continued embedding of digital devices into our lives.  Many backpacks now have iPod controls and some purses even come with solar panels, so it seems inevitable that a compact keyboard would be the next step.

The iKey AK-39 keyboard works in harsh magnetic environments, has LED back lighting and is designed for use with gloves.  No word on the price, but it should be a while before we see normal citizens sporting this as an accessory.  We’re not sure if we need our special forces falling in holes while texting, but the innovation of a wearable keyboard pushes the envelope of digital integration in our lives.  Or is it the death knell?
